Bayouとは？
In usage in the United States, a bayou (/ˈbaɪ.uː/ or /ˈbaɪ.oʊ/, from Cajun French) is a body of water typically found in a flat, low-lying area, and can be either an extremely slow-moving stream or river (often with a poorly defined shoreline), or a marshy lake or wetland. The name “bayou” can also refer to a creek whose current reverses daily due to tides and which contains brackish water highly conducive to fish life and plankton.

Bayous are commonly found in the Gulf Coast region of the southern United States, notably the Mississippi River Delta, with the states of Louisiana and Texas being famous for them.

バイユー（Bayou）とは、細くゆっくりと流れる川あるいは湿地のこと。また、川の流れが逆流する入り江のことも指す。この逆流によって海水が運ばれ豊かな漁場となっている。
特にアメリカのミシシッピ川流域のデルタ地帯の湿地を流れる川のことをいう。

Bayouはミシシッピを象徴する言葉で、Delta Bluesの中でよく歌われている。
よくBluesの歌の中で出てくるので、Bye youがなまったもので別れを歌っているのかな、と自分勝手に思っていたが、調べてみたら全然違った💦
英語っぽくない言葉なので、ルイジアナだし、きっとフランス語の単語が由来かな、と勝手に予想したがこれも違った。Native Americanのチョクトー族の言葉だった。
（まぁ、勝手に予想しても全然当たらない。やっぱり、Wikipediaは偉大だ。）
